First module introduces you to media studies and how sports media and entertainment fits into the context of social, economic and creative studies. You will be able to critically review sports media deals to assess the economic, fan and audience impacts.

This module covers how ethics impacts sports broadcasting and reporting. We will look at four areas: the impact of politics on sport and broadcasting; why athletes are role models; the impact of social media; and the impact of drugs in sport.
Media and protests; global sports response to Black Lives Matter campaign; history of political statements in sports; the Olympics movement and Rule 50; sports media influence; an insider’s view of the role of politics in sports media and broadcast (featuring Royals’ CEO, Mike Fordham).
Athletes as role models; the view of NBA legend, Charles Barkley; what makes a good role model
Fallen heroes; ‘Sandpaper Gate’; ‘The Hand of God’; the Spanish Paralympic basketball scandal; social media and behaviour; ‘Moments with Mayanti’ – a case study presented by Mayanti Langer Binny on the rules, protocols and sensitives today’s sports broadcasters must adhere to.
Drugs in sport; case study – Russia; drugs in sports historical timeline; athlete motivation to use drugs; the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA); overview of performance enhancing drugs; media’s influence on sports and drugs.
We will now look at how the media has evolved from the perspective of the various platforms now available to industry participants. We will start with newspapers, then move to radio, television and then onto the most recent platform innovations; streaming and social. Each platform has different impacts in terms of how sports coverage has changed. We will also look at social communities and different forms of social journalism. Finally, as a case study, we will specifically look at the Indian market and how it has dramatically morphed from a state broadcast system through to an incredibly diverse content creation ecosystem.

In this module, you will get the opportunity to reflect on the full scope of the learning you have done on the sports broadcast and media industry. You will be able to imagine how the industry may continue to innovate and practically what that could mean for how sports coverage and reporting evolve.
Storytelling at the core of innovation; storytelling innovation failures – viewer’s choice of camera / ‘red button’ & 3D TV sports coverage; the future of sports media innovation (e.g. immersive experiences, 5G connectivity, video access anywhere).
How is the industry likely to evolve; review of predictions about the future of sports and of sports media and broadcasting.
A 30-minute video featuring Mayanti Langer Binny detailing her career in sports media and broadcasting to date. Describing her journey as a "series of fortunate events", Mayanti provides a personal and honest account of her experience, including the people that have helped her along the way, key lessons learned, and tips for those who may aspire to follow her career path.
This certifies that the student successfully completed Sports Media and Broadcasting course and, in doing so, acquired key competencies and skills in sports, media & broadcast.
Deakin University is an Australian university, with its campus in Melbourne, Victoria. Deakin is ranked in the Top 1% of the global universities and is renowned for its sports programs; for example, Deakin’s Sport Science school is ranked 3rd in the world.
The programs are provided 100% online on the Open Learning platform. The programs are theoretical with video insights from the Rajasthan Royals management and main team. The modules have been prepared with a theoretical framework approach involving various case studies and video content based on the functioning of Rajasthan Royals Management. All lectures are pre-recorded and hence the module content can be studied at any time from any device.
The program comprises of multiple modules. Modules contain text and video-based learning content, with ten randomized questions based on the content undertaken at the end of each module. As the programs are delivered online, the content is available 24 hours a day enabling candidates to undertake the course when it's most convenient for them to do so.
The program is self-paced and can be completed in 4-6 weeks with 3-4 hours of effort. The time also varies depending on what approach you take for your learning. We recommend candidates reflect on the course material as they progress through the programs and look for additional relevant case studies from the world of sport to deepen the learning provided through the programs.
Yes, upon successful completion of the course you will receive an online certificate. No hard copies of the certificate will be provided.
On successful completion of either of the following programs, you will get an opportunity to interview with Rajasthan Royals.

• Sports Events and Facilities Management
Upon completing the assessment set by the HR at Rajasthan Royals followed by interviews with the respective Heads of Department, the internship will be offered to 1-3 interns/ year. The internship process starts from November for term of Jan – June.
At the end of each module, there is a quiz with ten randomized questions based on the content undertaken at the end of each module will be conducted, clearing it with 50% grades will provide you access to the next module.
Upon completion, candidates will have gained valuable knowledge and insights into the rapidly growing fields of sports industry. and in-depth insights into the field of sports media and broadcasting. Candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion jointly issued by the Rajasthan Royals & Deakin University for each of the courses
