VENUE: JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi
TIME: 16:00 (IST)
Pumped from the thrilling victory on Sunday, Rajasthan Royals will meet Chennai Super Kings at Ranchi on Tuesday.
CSK is known for its consistent performance. Led by arguably the best captain of recent times, MS Dhoni, CSK is playing their home match, away from home, at Ranchi. The team is coming after defeating Mumbai Indians at their home ground Wankhede.
Royals, on the other hand, have had their shares of ups and downs; going upwards a little more. Each member of Team Royals has stood up for the team on different occasions making winning a ‘complete team effort.’
For CSK, winning this game will ensure the top spot in the points table. Tied with KXIP for points, CSK just need an improved NRR for the same. And the team looks well determined to do it. Their openers are in full form and have brutally massacred almost every team’s bowlers. In fact, it will be very crucial for RR to get D Smith & B MuCullum early, for if, once they start hitting, they are unstoppable. Followed by Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina & MS Dhoni, CSK’s batting is the strongest one to be able to penetrate.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja too, is a good form. In fact, he achieved his best bowling figures, 4-33, vs RR in the previous match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The bowling department of CSK is just the right combination of pacers and spinners. Together they have been able to pull up victories for the team whenever batsmen fell short.
Royals too, have an admirable team. Karun Nair has slowly but steadily cemented his place as an opener in the playing 11 along with Rahane. Sanju Samson has been a wonderful wicket-keeper but he hasn’t scored much a last few games. He will be looking to utilize this opportunity and put some runs against his name. Shane Watson knows how tough the opponents are and it will be a ‘wait-n-watch’ before he reveals his game plan on field. Steve Smith’s athletic fielding will be an added advantage for RR when it comes to stopping CSK’s run machines.
RR’s all-rounders – Rajat Bhatia, James Faulkner and Kane Richardson – will have a bigger role to play if they want to stop CSK and / or chase them to victory. Pravin Tambe will once again be RR’s go-to bowler. Will it be Dhawal Kulkarni or Rahul Tewatia or a surprise name in the playing 11? Only the team’s think-tank knows!
Players to watch out for:
Brendon McCullum: In the previous match at Ranchi, he was unstoppable. McCullum will be looking to repeat his scores on the familiar pitch.
Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja took 4 wickets vs RR in the previous encounter. Even with his bat, he will be a dangerous player to watch out for.
Suresh Raina: When he fires, the spectators become fielders. RR will need a special plan to stop the Chennai Boys.
James Faulkner: He may not have been efficient with the ball, but he surely knows how to cover it up with his bat. Coming from a stupendous win, he will be in full form to repeat his feat.
Pravin Tambe: RR’s best hope against CSK! Tambe will be looking to getting more wickets and grabbing his Purple Cap back. He needs 2 more wickets for the same.
Shane Watson: Leader, wicket-taker, runs-scorer, RR’s game-changer, Watson will play a key role in winning the game vs CSK.
RR squad: Shane Watson (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, James Faulkner, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson, Brad Hodge, Steven Smith, Abhishek Nayar, Ben Cutting, Kane Richardson, Tim Southee, Unmukt Chand, Ankush Bains, Vikramjeet Malik, Rahul Tewatia, Ankit Sharma, Amit Mishra, Deepak Hooda, Rajat Bhatia, Kevon Cooper, Iqbal Abdulla, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pravin Tambe, Karun Nair, Dishant Yagnik.
