DATE: 8th May, 2014
VENUE: Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad
TIME: 20:00 (IST)
With 4 exhilarating victories in a row, Rajasthan Royals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground Motera, Ahmedabad, to make it 5 in a row! SRH have won 2 out of their 6 games and will be looking to put their best foot forward in the match.
For RR, it has become an every day activity to pull out victories from the jaws of defeat. In the last match vs KKR, it was all over for them until captain Watson did the magic bagging 3 big wickets in his over; followed by Tambe’s hattrick & they won by 10 runs. RR’s confidence will be at an all-time high when they enter the ground vs SRH.
SRH on the other hand, were completely overshadowed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in their previous match. Having the best bowling line-up did not work for SRH and how! AB de Villiers took world’s number 1 bowler Dale Steyn, for 24 runs.
Watson has always been the key man in the RR set-up and it will be no different this time around. The Aussie, who struck a 20-ball 31 to go with his 3/21 with the ball, will look to do better with the willow at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera.
Young Karun Nair has shown promise at the top of the order and RR can expect a lot from him. Ajinkya Rahane has been fairly consistent and he would look to continue in same vein, though he would like to add more runs. For the opposition bowlers, there is also the talented Sanju Samson and Steven Smith. It may be noted that their top four batsmen made significant contributions in the come-from-behind win over KKR.
42-year-old leg-spinner Pravin Tambe continues to catch attention with his impressive performance, the last coming against KKR. Even with the ball, Watson always wants to there at the thick of things. Tim Southee and James Faulkner are the other two specialist bowlers for Rajasthan. Their bowlers showed a lot of character when they stopped KKR, who were at one stage cruising along at 121 for one, to reducing them to 123 for six and eventually running away with the game.
As far as Sunrisers Hyderabad are concerned, skipper Shikhar Dhawan will need to lead from the front. A good start is of paramount importance in this form of the game, and Dhawan knows it too well. He has the aggressive Aaron Finch for company and if the duo gets going, it will be ominous for the opposition. The in-form David Warner lends muscle to the middle-order, with all-rounder Darren Sammy following him in the batting order.
Pace spearhead Dale Steyn will lead the attack with the Indian duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma playing the support cast. Sammy and Irfan Pathan are the other two medium pacers, while Karn Sharma will shoulder the responsibility in the spin department.
The pitch at Motera is batsmen friendly and the hard-hitters from both teams will be looking to grab the opportunity to hit the ball out of the ground. But it will also be bowlers’ flair at test to stop the batsmen as early as possible.
Head to Head: 4
Players to watch out for:
Shane Watson: Skipper Watson has led his team from the front and played the key role in the previous match with the ball. He will be looking to add more runs like he did in the previous encounter vs SRH.
Pravin Tambe: The hattrick-taker for RR, is in the limelight and will be the dangerous one once he gets his finesse going. Playing the key role, Tambe will prove match turner.
Dale Steyn: An injured lion, Steyn will be back to his best, to compensate for the defeat vs RCB.
David Warner: Powerful hitter, Warner will be looking to exploit the pitch conditions to the fullest and add runs on the scorecard for his team.
Comment below the opening pair for both teams – RR & SRH. If your answers match with the teams, you stand a chance to win RR goodies.
