Rajasthan Royals Ready to Rumble?

The preparation for the 11th season of the Indian Premier League is reaching its high. All the eight teams who are participating in the tournament are busy fine tuning their strategies. This year’s tournament is set to be bigger and better than ever before. The tournament will kick off with a grand ceremony at the home of the defending champions Mumbai Indians. Once the glitz and the glory of the opening ceremony is over, some hard fought cricket is to be expected. The warriors of the Rajasthan Royals should be ready to take on the opposition from ball one of the tournament. It is only a matter of a few weeks until the battle for supremacy in the premier T20 competition begins. Let us check out some of the recent developments happening, which could give the royal fans a glimpse of what to expect once the tournament kicks off.

Battle Ready at the Fortress

Over the years, the Rajasthan Royals have enjoyed playing in front of their home crowd at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. The visiting teams see this venue as a fortress which is almost impossible to penetrate. Performing well in the home matches is crucial as this gives the team an excellent chance of making it to the playoff stages. In order to continue their supreme dominance in the home matches, most of the Rajasthan Royals team has gathered at the venue to get acclimatised to the conditions, so that before the beginning of the tournament they are well aware of the conditions.

Some of the top performers of the previous seasons like Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi have been sweating it out in the nets. These batsmen along with the youngsters like Mahipal Lomror and Prashant Chopra would be looking to get some valuable tips from the domestic cricket stalwart Amol Mazumdar who has been appointed as the batting coach for the Rajasthan Royals team.

Similarly the bowlers were also spotted honing their skills at the camp. It is no secret that good bowling during the death overs is hugely important, and while the pacers were practicing this difficult skill, the young spinners like Shreyas Gopal and Sudhesan Midhun looked to pick the brains of the spin bowling Coach Sairaj Bahutule and come up with their bowling plans. The role of the spinners during the middle overs will play a big role in deciding how well the team does as a whole. Moreover, the team are excitedly waiting for Shane Warne’s arrival.

English Duo on Track

England clinched the five match ODI series against the Kiwis with a fine display in the 5th and the final ODI. The Royal duo of Ben Stokes and Jos Butler had a significant role to play in this success. Ben Stokes has completed a successful reintegration into the side with some solid performances in the series. While, his cameos are something which his fans come to expect from him, what was particularly heartening to see was his matured approach in the third ODI. In a low scoring affair, it was Ben Stokes’ patient innings of 39 off 73 balls which proved to be the difference between the two sides. This goes to show that even in difficult pitches and bad starts we can count on Stoksey to deliver the goods for the Royals. In the same match, Jos Butler too played a very important role as he came in and upped the ante with a hard-hitting knock of 29 off 23 balls. In a pitch on which all the other batsmen struggled for fluency, Butler was the only one who found his timing. This is definitely a good news for the RR fans. Ben Stokes has also been bowling consistently at good pace. This further goes to show that he is in good rhythm and shape.

Dushmantha Chameera Troubling Batsmen in Hero Nidahas Trophy

Dushmantha Chameera is another Rajasthan Royals player who has been tasting success at the international stage on a consistent basis. He created a lot of problems for the Indian batsmen during the inaugural match of the ongoing Hero Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. His impressive bowling performance of 2/33 in his four overs meant that India could not put up a match winning score on the board, which helped Sri Lanka to clinch the tie. His performances in the following match against Bangladesh too was equally impressive. However, he was a tad unlucky to finish with figures of 1/44. Rajasthan Royals fans would be hoping that his luck takes a turn when he plays for the team once the IPL commences. He could prove to be an important cog in the team’s wheel with his ability to take early wickets and also break crucial partnerships.

Jaydev Unadkat

After the match winning performance against Bangladesh, Unadkat has managed to continue his good run with another solid performance. Rajasthan Royals fans must be delighted to see that his death bowling game is getting stronger. We will be hoping that he hits a purple patch once the season starts and gives the RR a good start as well as a steady end with the ball.

Overall the team seems to be going in the right direction. Over the course of the next few weeks, the team will be trying out different combinations and looking to decide what their best 11 will be depending on the conditions offered to them at their home ground as well as during the away fixtures. Once that is done, the warriors from the Rajasthan Royals will be ready for the battle cry, Phir Halla Bol!
