Both teams are coming from losses – RR lost as easy match to 2 time champions CSK & DD lost to RCB in an interesting run-chase. However, RR stands at the 3rd position on the points table whereas; DD is at the bottom losing 5 matches in a row.

RR will be clearly looking to win this match on their home ground starting as the favourites. DD on the other hand have nothing to lose but a victory will definitely boost some confidence in the DD camp.

In the previous encounter, DD scored a decent 152-5 runs. However, DD bowlers failed to defend the score and Karun Nair’s 73* made it an easy win for RR.

RR has experienced a roller coaster journey so far in this year’s IPL. They have won matches from nowhere close, and they have also lost some very easy matches. In the last match vs CSK, RR experimented with 3 changes in the team. This helped them discover Ankit Sharma but that wasn’t enough to beat the mighty Kings.

Having won 6 out of 10 matches, RR comfortably sits at the 3rd position. However, winning the match vs DD will concrete their stand. There has not been a 1-man army condition of RR and every member of the playing 11 has played a major role in these victories. Skipper Watson looks back in good form since he scored his first 50 of the IPL vs CSK; which will be an added boost to team’s morale.

RR’s bowling department too, will be looking for another impressive performance which will boost team’s NRR as well. Like the previous match, RR might heave in a few googlies in the team combination giving chance to young guns, like they have always done.

DD has won 2 matches (out of the 10 they have played) so far and both were played in UAE during the first leg of IPL. In the match vs KKR, DD chased down 166-run target with ease winning by 4 wickets. In the next match vs MI, they wrapped up MI for mere 125 runs & chased the total with 6 wickets in hand. However, they are yet to win in India. As luck would have its say, DD lost their home match vs SRH because of rains by D/L method.

DD’s batting line-up has big names like De Kock, M Vijay, KP, Dinesh Karthik, JP Duminy, K Jadhav. These players have made decent contribution for the team at various occasions. It was JP Duminy’sfanatical attack that helped DD win vs KKR. Skipper Kevin Pieterson has not able to live up to the hype and hasn’t been contributed much with his bat. Their bowling department lacks fire. Mohammed Shamihas been out of the form since the start of the tournament and Coulter-Nile’s injury has aggravated the woes. Over dependence on Duminy hasn’t worked for them as well. Tahir, Kaul, Unadkat and Shukla have all tried and failed in picking up wickets helping team win matches.

All in all, DD will require some monstrous efforts to put in if they want to win the match vs RR. On the other hand, RR will be looking this an opportunity to rediscover their winning players that may help them at the later stage of the tournament.

Head-To-Head: 13
RR: 7
DD: 6

Players to watch out for:

Shane Watson: In the matches where he wasn’t able to contribute with his bat, he did it with his ball. Either ways, skipper Watto will be in a very good form and he will play a key role in RR’s victory.

Karun Nair: In the previous match vs DD, he proved his mettle as the opener. This will be his opportunity to once again let his bat do the talking.

Kevin Pieterson: Though he has not been at his best, this batsman can fire in the spur. RR bowlers will have to tactfully tackle this macho man of DD

JP Duminy: DD’s saving grace at various occasions, Duminy plays a key role of the team.

RR squad: Shane Watson (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, James Faulkner, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson, Brad Hodge, Steven Smith, Abhishek Nayar, Ben Cutting, Kane Richardson, Tim Southee, Unmukt Chand, Ankush Bains, Vikramjeet Malik, Rahul Tewatia, Ankit Sharma, Amit Mishra, Deepak Hooda, Rajat Bhatia, Kevon Cooper, Iqbal Abdulla, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pravin Tambe, Karun Nair, Dishant Yagnik.
