With the IPL 2019 just around corner, most of our players have been gearing for the upcoming T20 carnoval and have shown brilliant performances in various formats of the game. The Irani Trophy, Pakistan Super League, the Super Smash as well the West Indies vs England series in the Caribbean are some of the leagues that the Royals have been part of. The ones that have shone and have been making news in the last one week are -
Liam Livingstone’s debut in the PSL and how!
Rajasthan Royals’ newest addition Liam Livingstone has proved to be a star opener for the Karachi Kings in the PSL. His debut in the league saw him setting the pace - an opening wicket partnership with Babar Azam of 157 runs in just 15.4 overs. Livingstone’s 82 runs off 43 balls was the highest score made by any batsman. His score helped the Karachi Kings post a score of 183/6, winning over the Multan Sultans by seven runs.
Ajinkya Rahane’s knock of 87 runs against Vidarbha
Ajinkya Rahane’s entry in the second innings proved helpful to the Rest of India team that was struggling at 46/2. His patient strike of 87 runs with a partnership of 229 runs with Hanuma Vihari led the team to reach a respectable score and give Vidarbha a tough fight.
Ish Sodhi’s stint in the finals of the Super Smash
In the Super Smash finals, while the Central Districts dominated at 147/8 the Northern District’s spin bowler Ish Sodhi’s tactful bowling led him to limit the run flow of the Central Districts where he picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs at an economy of 7.5.
Ben Stokes & Jos Buttler contribute to the victory against Oshane Thomas’ West Indies
Following their half centuries in England’s last test match against the West Indies, the West Indies vs England ODI series saw Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes playing against new Royals’ teammate Oshane Thomas. Jos and Ben stepped up to remain unbeaten and put the final touches to a game where England chased down a mammoth target of 361. While Stokes performed very well with 3 wickets, Buttler hit the winning boundary to give them a 1-0 lead in the series.
All you Royals fans, let’s shout out to our players and hope that they continue their form in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Halla Bol!
