The second week of August has been one which has been filled with high-quality cricketing action. On one hand, we saw some one-sided contests, on the other, there were plenty of close-encounters. When it comes to T20 cricket, this week saw the launch of the sixth edition of the Caribbean Premier League. This is one of the biggest and most exciting T20 tournaments in the world. So plenty of high-octane cricket is expected from the Caribbean islands over the course of the next few weeks.

Moving from one Island to another, Sri Lanka has shown some much-needed spine in the last two ODIs of the five-match series against the Proteas. They salvaged to win both the encounters and ended the series with a 3-2 margin, in favour of South Africa. Sri Lanka’s neighbours, India, however, had a week that they would prefer to forget. India lost by a significant margin against England in the second test match. Fortunately for the Indians, this is a five test match series, so there is still time to make a strong comeback. Captain Virat Kohli and Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane, will be hoping to lead their team by example and start a memorable comeback.

Over at the Vitality Blast T20 tournament, the action has been heating up. Intense competition means that the quarter-final spots are still up for grab. Some of our Royals have been playing key roles in all these competitions, while others are preparing for their next challenge. Let us check out some of the latest news about our favourite Rajasthan Royals side:

Jofra Archer Stars for Sussex against Somerset

Jofra Archer produced one of the most impactful overs of the tournament last week, when he bagged a hat-trick and led his team to victory. This week, he carried on the excellent work by continuing to produce spells which turn the tide for his team. Batting first, Sussex put up a decent score of 169 against Somerset, in the south group tie. However, the score meant that Sussex needed to make inroads into the Somerset batting line-up by taking early wickets. Jofra Archer did just that for his team. He bowled a tight line against both the batsmen and frustrated opener Tom Banton to prize out his wicket. His four overs cost just 24 runs, which gave Sussex a great chance to sneak out a win. In his second spell, when it seemed like Somerset would win the match in a canter, Archer came back and got the vital wicket of the well-set Tom Abell, who was batting on 30 off 21 balls. Unfortunately, for Archer and Sussex, this was not enough, as Somerset, hit the winning runs in the last over to win a nail-biter.

Karnataka Premier League Ready to Rock

The much anticipated Karnataka Premier League is ready to commence this week. The exciting news is that you will be able to follow some of your favourite Royals players in this domestic T20 tournament. The experienced all-rounder Stuart Binny would be providing his services to the Belagavi Panthers team, and Krishnappa Gowtham would be plying his trade in the colours of Mysuru Warriors. This is an ideal platform for these players to showcase their talent, while also sharpening their T20 skills in a highly competitive atmosphere. We wish both our Royals all the best for the upcoming KPL season. We will definitely be tracking their performances closely!

D’Arcy Short Gets Australia A Call-Up

D’Arcy Short showed immense potential in his last tournament in the Australian colours. He even delivered a memorable century that seems to have impressed the Aussie selectors. He has been drafted in the Australian A team for the one-day tri-series against India and South Africa, in India. This is a great opportunity for him to understand the pitches in India and get some valuable experience in the sub-continental conditions. The Rajasthan Royals team would be expecting him to do well and come back an improved player for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. He will be up against some disciplined South African bowling and some highly talented Indian spinners. So it will be a challenge that Short will relish and would like to overcome with true Royals spirit. We hope he does stupendously for his team.

In the coming week, the cricket fans will have lots of exciting action to look forward too. We will be tracking all the action in West Indies, India and England and bringing you the latest updates. Halla Bol!
