11th May 2009 - De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley : The Rajasthan Royals suffered another blow when they failed to chase the 167-run target set by the Deccan Chargers at the De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to have a bat but was out soon to Pathan. Suman on the other end looked good in his innings of 29 (19-balls) before he was out to Trivedi. Minutes before the interval, Jadeja had Rohit Sharma stumped and then had the ominous looking Symonds bowled in his next over to place the Royals on top with the Chargers 95/4 at the 14-over mark.

However, thereafter Dwayne Smith, Chaminda Vaas and Venugopal Rao took charge of the situation and mustered 71 runs of the last six overs. Smith in particular was severe against the bowling and had four sixes in his knock of 47 that came in just 32-balls. That late charge meant that the Royals were chasing 167 instead of may be a 145.

Graeme Smith was out early, leg before to Vaas who was playing his first match. Carseldine looked good but was out stumped in bizarre fashion as he tried to take off for a single not realising that the ball was in the keeper's gloves. Swapnil Asnodkar (44 off 39) came good today but did not get any support from the other end. Wickets tumbled regularly at the other end as the asking rate kept getting out of hand.

Thereafter, the Royals were looking for damage control to probably minimise the impact of the Net Run Rate that could play a very crucial role in deciding the semi-final spots. The Royals were eventually bowled out for 113, in the process, suffering a 53-run defeat. Warne later commented that he isn't happy with the side's intensity and that there will be much work need in the next games if Royals are to make it to the final top 4.
