07th May 2009 - SuperSport Park, Centurion : The Rajasthan Royals did almost everything right to avenge the first match’s loss by posting a comfortable 7-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Warne won the toss and had no hesitation to put the opposition in on a wicket that would offer assistance early on. RR bought in the local lad Morne Morkel and Munaf Patel for Harwood and Trivedi. RCB were off to a quiet start and had a respite when Amit Singh misjudged a Jaffer skier off Morkel. However, Singh made up for the loss when he had Jaffer caught in the covers in the very next over.
RCB moved slowly until Kallis flicked one over off Munaf for six. However, a couple of balls later he was out caught when he tried to pull one over. Warne introduced a surprise change in Carseldine who had Dravid caught behind for a duck. Later, Warne got Jadeja to bowl and he trapped Uthappa plumb in front. Half way through the innings, RCB were struggling at 49/4.
The strategic time out did not help them either and yet another case saw Boucher out in the first over after the break to Jadeja. Jadeja had a dream run (3/15) when he struck again as he dismissed Kohli to a brilliant catch from Morkel. RCB did manage a couple of maximums but good bowling in the death overs ensured that RR would chase a very modest total. Amit Singh was again the pick of the bowlers as he took 4/19 to bowl out RCB for 105.
The Royals, not chasing a big target, were off to a quiet start with runs coming in ones-and-twos with the odd boundary from Smith. Just as Smith looked to open up, Kallis managed one straight though his defence to rattle his stumps. Carseldine did not have a successful outing with the bat and was dismissed only for nine. It was then that Pathan and Ojha got the move on and had a breezy 43-run partnership in just 5 overs. This time though, the big blows came from the bat of Ojha who simply continued his good run with the bat, who wasted no time after Pathan’s departure and stuck 4-6-4 to complete the formalities and hit successive 50s (52 off 38).
Amit Singh was awarded Man-of-the-Match for his outstanding bowling effort.
