Its never over until it is over in sports! And Rajasthan Royals learnt that first hand in a bitter 1 run loss to the Delhi Daredevils. Rahul Dravid hit the nail on the head on agreeing how heart breaking such a loss is, especially after they dominated the game for a better part of 38 overs, spanning both innings.
After having a perfect platform of 99 runs for the opening stand, the Royals needed just 15 from the last two overs. With 9 wickets in hand, Rajasthan Royals had it in the kitty and it was just a matter of time before they got there. Morne Morkel, who has consistently been the backbone of Delhi bowling line up, was called upon to bowl the penultimate over. Rahane was way past 70 and Hodge had blasted 20 in no time. Not only did Morkel end up applying a choke-hold but he also trapped Hodge, leaving the Royals 12 off the last Umesh Yadav over.
Dot, single and single meant a tall 10 in the last three balls. The match was stretched too far to the Royals liking and the only hope was that the well set Rahane was on strike. Rahane, who has been a class act this IPL, slapped the next over point for 6 and got another couple to leave 2 off the final delivery. Yadav boldly bowled one short the wide that Rahane missed and Owais Shah fell short while trying to steal a bye; Royals one run short!
It was always going to be a daunting task to topple the table toppers but the Royals did well after Delhi chose to bat. They picked two quick wickets to put Delhi on the back foot and also kept a check on Sehwags scoring. But given his form, it was only a matter of time before Sehwag would unleash his assault. The bowling was quite tight from the Royals but Sehwag was too good with his blade that produced a flurry of runs.
After seeing the back of Sehwag, the Royals produced some great overs and Delhi were looking may be 50 short of their original target. A great last over saw them post 152, which eventually proved, just enough.
