Jaipur, March 7, 2009: Rajasthan Royals, the champions of IPL 2008, in the run-up to second season of IPL are gearing up in style with a host of new initiatives to Halla Bol! Planned with a view to engage with the local community as well as in the catchment areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat, these initiatives help build a strong fan base both in India and overseas. 


From new sporting gear for the team and for the fans, a new anthem rendition by Anand Raj Anand to a DVD capturing the fairytale success of the Royals, a must have for all the Royals fans - the Bugle, Rajasthan Royals are leaving no stone unturned to prove that they are the true champions on and off-field!


Says Manoj Badale, Chairman & Co-owner, Rajasthan Royals, "This year, in addition to continuing with our primary metric of success -focus on cricket, we have been looking at opportunities and initiatives off the field to accelerate our brand building. We have launched a range of contests to increase local participation during the match days, initiated a five-tier membership program for local fans and also focused on the expansion of licensing and merchandising opportunities."




This season, the squad for Rajasthan Royals boasts of a perfect blend of experience and youth. Adding punch to the champion squad this season are some T20 specialists like Tyron Henderson (South Africa), Shane Harwood, Lee Carseldine and rookie Rob Quiney (all from Australia), who on their day can win a match on their own. The player who could cause a few worries and is probably the fastest bowler in the world - Shaun Tait, will definitely have some great skills to showcase this year. As part of their program to tap the local talent and potential, there are a host of new faces like Mohammed Kamaran Khan, Siddharth Chitnis (both from Mumbai), Naman Ojha (M.P.), Raiphi Vincent Gomez (Kerala) who can spring a few surprises this season.


Speaking on the squad for IPL season 2 (refer annexure), Mr. Badale said, "We have worked hard to build a balanced squad with the right mix of players. Our focus has always been on T20 specialists and it's a strategy that worked very well for us last season. Under the leadership of Captain-Coach Shane Warne and backed by a strong second line including Darren Berry, Jeremy Snape and John Gloster, we are confident that the team will once again live up to the challenge and turn out top performances like the last season."




For IPL Season 2, Rajasthan Royals has tied up with global sporting apparel brand Puma. As the Official 'Sports Apparel Sponsor', Puma will provide the team with exclusive Jaipur IPL branded merchandise including Team Jersey (IPL and Champions League), Practice Jersey, - Fan shirt and gear - male, female and kids, Caps, Official shoes, Cricket bats, Wristbands, Flip flops, Sandals and Sports bags. Puma will also sell merchandise in stadium / various stands, for fans to feel a part of the team.




The official anthem of Team Rajasthan Royals -'Halla Bol' has got a new makeover under the creative expertise and guidance of new stake-holder and co-owner Shilpa Shetty. The Halla Bol number is based on Rajasthani folk songs and has been directed by popular music director Anand Raj Anand.


Shilpa is so enthused with the anthem that she is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the soon to be launched music video based on the anthem is better than anything that she has ever done before. The music video will be directed by feature film-maker Ken Ghosh. She has worked on the costumes, accessories in advance and has also roped in ace choreographer Ahmed Khan for the music video which was shot in Jaipur.


Says Shilpa Shetty, Chief Executive Officer, S2 Global Productions Ltd and co-owner Rajasthan Royals, "I'm so glad Ken is making an exception for me. We chose Anand Raj Anand because he's an expert at catchy folk songs. I first worked in a film with his music, when he scored for Pardesi Babu. I was simply bowled over by the numbers. Today when I hear the song he has composed for our team I feel deeply enthused."




A must have fan accessory for all fans attending the Rajasthan Royals matches, Shilpa Shetty amongst much fan fare unveiled the pre-eminent fan gear- The Royals Bugle. The Bugle combined with the chants of Halla Bol, will be the sound that will echo through the city and will lift the spirits to an all time high!




In another first the Royals launched a DVD titled Road to Victory -  the true story of the fairytale success of the champions of season 1, A squad widely criticized, a team given no chance, proved all the critics wrong and rose from being the Underdogs to Champions. The DVD takes viewers through the victorious journey of the Royals who were dismissed without a chance by fans and critics alike before even a ball was bowled, The docu-feature runs through the inspirational tale of the Royals who against all expectations reached the final and went onto to win the Indian Premier League 2008. The DVD is a fitting outcome of the brilliance of the Royals players, the vision of the Management and the foresight of the people who created the IPL.




The story of the reigning champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will soon provide the background for a Bollywood film to be produced by Kaleidoscope Entertainment. The film titled 'Googly' will be funded by Kaleidoscope and feature players from the Royals team. The Rajasthan Royals team will form the background for the main story of the film.


The script for the film has been finalized. The film is in the pre-production stage and should go on floors during the second IPL season in April. Rajasthan Royals' journey from being underdogs to IPL champions presented Bedi a perfect script for his film. The film is medium-budget, with youngsters playing the main roles.




The Rajasthan Royals have also chalked out extensive licensing and merchandising plans that will cover not just India but also countries like US, UK and Australia where the team already has a growing fan base. Going forward the company is looking at partnerships in different categories like FMCGs, linen and kids products. They would use Rajasthan Royals' branding to come out with product formulations. Besides the sportswear, Rajasthan Royals is also planning to launch formal wear and children's products. The franchisee is in talks with many Indian and international brands to launch formal wear, including Jodhpuris and other apparels.
